About LIYSF

Directions to Halls of Residence

See the LIYSF Campus Google map here

There are two underground stops to use for LIYSF:

  • SOUTH KENSINGTON – for LIYSF main events at Imperial College and the Royal Geographical Society and Beitside Halls (Beit & Southside)
  • GLOUCESTER ROAD for MGM Halls (Millennium Gloucester and Metrogate) and Richmond Halls (Atlantic and Ambassador House)

International Arrivals at Heathrow Airport

On the arrivals day there will be an LIYSF staff member based at Heathrow airport to assist you if required, they will be based in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall.

At the airport follow signs for the “Underground“. This is the metro/tube/subway in London. There is only one “line” which goes to and from the airport – The Piccadilly Line (Dark Blue Line). Take this and stay on the train until South Kensington or Gloucester Road. There are roughly 15 stations along the line before your stop and should take around 40/45mins, with trains runninig every 5-10mins. This is the cheapest option to get to LIYSF from Heathrow. Do not take a regular overground train or the Heathrow Express.

Where to catch trains?
Heathrow has three London Underground stations – one for Terminals 1, 2 and 3, one each for Terminals 4 & 5, follow the signs in the terminal to the station downstairs. All stations are in Travelcard Zone 6.

For those arriving to Terminal 3, follow the train carriage symbol and signs to outside the building (to the right) and go across a large open concourse towards Virgin Atlantic, but don’t go back inside. Take the lifts outside on the left-hand side marked “trains” to Level -1. Follow signs and tunnels for the underground, don’t turn left in the tunnel to trains for Heathrow express, keep walking straight to the underground.

Fares and tickets
A single fare to central London costs approximately £6 and you can buy tickets from all stations. If you have a credit/debit card with contactless payments, you can use this to tap in and tap out, you don’t need to buy a ticket. Please remember to tap in and tap out with the same card.

Times
Trains leaving FROM Heathrow to London start from 05.12am and the last train is at 23.48pm. Trains FROM London to Heathrow start from 05.47am and the last train is at 00.32am. You can check for more information at www.heathrowairport.com/transport-and-directions/underground

Other Airports

If you are arriving into London to another airport, it’s a good idea to check your route on the Transport for London website at https://tfl.gov.uk/

For all airports you should take the train they recommend to central London and then use the underground train system to get to South Kensington/Gloucester Road. If you are arriving to Gatwick Airport, please take the train to Victoria (Gatwick Express) and then change to district or circle underground line westbound. London Airport Links:
