Using Public Transport from the airport Private Airport Transfer Walking Directions from local London Underground Stations
There are three underground stops to use for LIYSF:
SOUTH KENSINGTON – for LIYSF main events at Imperial College and the Royal Geographical Society and Beitside Halls (Beit & Southside/Eastside)
GLOUCESTER ROAD for Queen’s Halls (Metrogate and Astor Hyde Park)
HIGH STREET KENSINGTON for Tara Halls (Copthorne Tara)
International Arrivals at Heathrow Airport
On the arrivals day, there will be a LIYSF staff member based at Heathrow Terminal 3 arrivals hall.
At the airport follow signs for the “Underground“. This is the metro/tube/subway in London. There is only one “line” which goes to and from the airport – The Piccadilly Line (Dark Blue Line). Take this and stay on the train until South Kensington or Gloucester Road. There are roughly 15 stations along the line before your stop and should take around 40/45mins, with trains running every 5-10mins. This is the cheapest option to get to LIYSF from Heathrow. You can use your contactless credit/card directly at the ticket barrier, it’s very easy. Do not take a regular overground train or the Heathrow Express. If staying at Tarathorne, take the Gloucester Road stop.
Where to catch the trains?
Heathrow has three London Underground stations – one for Terminals 1, 2, and 3, one each for Terminals 4 & 5, follow the signs in the terminal to the station downstairs. All stations are in Travelcard Zone 6.
For those arriving at Terminal 3, follow the train carriage symbol and signs outside the building (to the right) and go across a large open concourse towards Virgin Atlantic, but don’t go back inside. Take the lifts outside on the left-hand side marked “trains” to level -1. Follow signs and tunnels for the underground, don’t turn left in the tunnel to trains for Heathrow Express, keep walking straight to the underground.
Price and tickets
A single ticket to central London on the Underground costs approximately £6 and you can directly use your contactless credit/debit card at the entry ticket barrier and exit or you can buy tickets from all stations. Please remember to tap in and tap out with the same card. The Heathrow Express train costs £25 for a single peak journey.
Times
Trains leaving FROM Heathrow to London start from 05:12 am and the last train is at 23:48pm. Trains FROM London to Heathrow start from 05:47 am and the last train is at 00:32 am. You can check the Heathrow website for more information.
Other airports
If you are arriving in London at another airport, it’s a good idea to check your route on the Transport for London (TfL) website. For all airports, you should use the TfL route suggested, to central London and then use the underground train to get to High Street Kensington.
Private airport transfer/car
It is possible to book a private car with us to collect you from the airport and drop you off directly at LIYSF. The cost per transfer with a private car from Heathrow is £107.
You will be met by an approved driver, who will have a name-board and meet you at the arrivals meeting point/gate at the airport. Payment is arranged directly with LIYSF beforehand, so you don’t have to worry about this on the day and the driver will drop you off directly at your LIYSF halls of residence in South Kensington.
You must book this in advance with us by 1st July, please contact us to book.
Group transfers
Please contact us if you arriving as part of a group, as we have options for providing MPV vehicles, mini-coaches, and full-size coaches to provide airport transfers for you.
