Professor Ghada Bassioni

Ghada Bassioni , Dr. rer. nat. 2004, Technische Universität München TUM, Munich, Germany.

She has been recently appointed as the President of Saxony Egypt University for Applied Science and Technology and is on leave as a Professor at the Chemistry Division at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, where she led the Division for 10 years. She is a selected bureau member of the International Committee of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) since 2019 and a member of the Egyptian National Committee for Pure and Applied Chemistry, Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology since 2017.

She manages the project “Energy Efficiency Measures in Egyptian Public Universities” of the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) since 2020, funded by the German Development Bank (KfW). She is also appointed as the Erasmus+ Coordinator (NEO) in Egypt since May 2023 and has jointly served for 10 years starting 2013 at the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF), Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research coordinating several international cooperations. She has been a member of the Global Young Academy from 2013-2018. She holds the renowned Incentive State Award of Egypt in the field of Chemistry in 2013.

She has been recognized with several national, regional, and international awards. Prof. Bassioni was selected as an academic visitor and panellist at the Nobel Laureates meetings in Lindau, Germany, in 2012 and 2014, respectively. In 2013, she received the Young Scientist Award at the World Economic Forum, the Next Einstein Forum Award in 2016 and the African Science Leadership Award in the same year.

She is a Fulbright fellow as well as L.A.B. fellow, a consortium of three organizations: Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, the European Forum in Alpbach and the Falling Walls in Berlin since 2016. In 2023 she has been appointed as a fellow of the prestigious International Science Council ISC. She has organized a significant number of scientific and gender-related workshops and conferences as women’s representative from 2005-2007 at the Technical University Munich, as Chair of the Women’s Initiative at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers from 2009-2011, and as a member and lead of the Women in Science working group of the Global Young Academy 2014-2017.

She has received the LEWA Leadership Excellence for Women award runner-up in 2013 and was an invited speaker within Springboard Women’s Development Project, organized by the British Council in 2013. Annually, she organizes the Global Women’s Breakfast of IUPAC in Egypt and sometimes in collaboration with the Indian and the German Chemical Societies as well as the EU commission and UNESCO. She has organized a significant no. of educational and technical conferences and workshops with modern ideas in connection to novel teaching methods. She organized several fora in disseminating awareness of sustainability concepts in an African context. She has over 120 publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and international conferences and serves as associate editor in several highly ranked scientific journals.
