There has never been a more exciting year to join LIYSF in London than in the Olympic Year!

London is getting ready to have all the eyes of the world looking on it in this prestigious year.  The venues stretch across the city and there will be a great buzz around the whole capital.  During LIYSF there will still be Paralympics games taking place – so why not take the chance to come and see some of the games in action – or be around the Olympic Village when they are taking place?

Eminent speakers confirmed for LIYSF 2012!

LIYSFProfessor Sir Roy Anderson will give the principal opening address on our 2012 theme: The Human Planet. Sir Roy is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London and has recently held the post of Rector of Imperial College and Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Ministry of Defence.  His recent research collaborations include work with the European Commission, the Canadian and US governments and US National Academies. In 2012 we will look at Earth Sciences, and how they affect the human race; and how we humans interact with our planet.

The Forum will include a seminar day 'Overcoming Disaster', led by Sir Colin Terry, dealing with the ways we can cope with widespread problems such as disease epidemics; geological events such as desertification, floods, earthquakes, and volcanic activity; and social aspects such as population growth and food supply.  Air Marshal Sir Colin Terry, KBE, has had a distinguished career in the Royal Airforce becoming Head of Logistics and Chief Engineer, responsible for 15,000 personnel and 30 aircraft types.  He sits on the board of Meggitt PLC and is President of the Council of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Chairman of the Engineering Council and President of the Council of European Aerospace Societies, Member of The Advisory Committee for The Queen's Awards for Enterprise and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Imperial College.

Professor Trevor Jones CBE will give the closing lecture at this year's LIYSF. Professor Jones is Director General of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI),representing over 100 research-based prescription medicine companies to Government, the media and international agencies; including the UK, European Parliament and Commission. Professor Jones is a member of the UK Government : Pharmaceutical Industry Ministerial Strategy Group on Pharmaceuticals and is on the Board of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA). He has served on a number of national and international Commissions. He was, for 12 years, a member of the Medicines Commission of the UK Government Medicines Control Agency. Professor Jones is Deputy Chairman of Council and visiting professor at King's College, University of London.

However, coming to London in 2012 may a little harder as cost of flights and transport may be increased. We have altered our dates to try and reflect this and to help with the costs. Please contact us for more information about how you can reduce the cost of your travel to London and ideas we have to help – depending on your departure country.

  • BOOK EARLY! The sooner you book the better chance you have of getting a good rate on your tickets!  Don't forget we offer an early booking discount as well, so even more reasons to secure your place early!
  • Fly into another European airport and talk to us about how you can book a train with us to connect you to London – Great connection available from Paris and Amsterdam.
  • Fly into another airport to attend LIYSF – The UK has many international airports which are easily reached from London by train – Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh, or Glasgow to name a few.
